Golf Swing Dynamics Interview

By Interviewer at 12/13/07 17:49
What is the name of your Blog?

Golf Swing Dynamics

What is your name?

John

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

Connecticut of the U.S. of A.

What is your current age or age range?

21-30

Please describe your blog

My blog is basically about swing theories related to the game of golf. There is some instruction here and there, things that I've picked up through many hours of expensive lessons, but it's mostly my take on how we learn to make a ball go at a stick, and the way we teach others to do the same.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

I would like to think I have something unique to offer the world, although it's not incredibly unique, or insightful, and maybe not even correct - but that's blogging for you ;)

What blogging platform do you do and why?

I use blogger because it's free. The purpose of my blog is not to sell products or get people to click on a link; it's to write about something that I am passionate about. I do want people to read, share, and interact with my blog but if that doesn't happen, it's not the end of the world. I'll still be happy.

What do you blog the most about?

I usually write about golf swing theory. I find it very interesting how there are so many different ways to approach one motion. The way I see it, the golf swing is simply the result of trying to get ball from point A to point B using our awkwardly built bodies that were never meant for this purpose in the first place. I guess you could say I like to share my philosophies.

What kind of blogs make you angry?

Blogs that lie to sell you things make me angry. Affiliate marketing - it started out as a good idea, and quickly turned into an unregulated scamathon. I think a big reason why e-commerce hasn't taken off like it could have is because there are people out there who are destroying our trust of one another.

Give five of your best blogging tips.

1. Love what you are writing about, 2. Be yourself, 3. Blog to write, not to sell, 4. Try to add something unique and of value and.. 5. If you can't add something unique and of value..who cares! Keep on writing, superstar!

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

I would never blog about my personal life. I don't think that's anyone's business but my own and the people in my life. I wouldn't want my family or my girlfriend posting things about my daily life on the internet, so I wouldn't do it to them either.

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

I started blogging because I wanted to create something. I have a very strong urge to make my mark somewhere, and unfortunitely, using the couch as a toilet just wasn't cutting it. Seriously, though, we all dream of making lots of money on the internet and quitting our day jobs. But in reality, most of the people, and there are very few, who are actually making money are doing it at the expense of others. There's usually no value being added to the business process.

How long have you been blogging?

I've been blogging for a couple of months. I just started this new blog a week or two ago, so I am excited to get it out there. It's something I can see myself doing once a week for the rest of my life.

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

I spend maybe an hour on each post, a few times a week. I like to talk on golf related forums, and sometimes I will get into a conversation that just gets me thinking. Then it can be hours and multiple posts at a time.

Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?

I don't track them because I am not usually on the internet all that long. I am more into the creative aspects of blogging, i.e. writing them, not reading them. Plus, I'm afraid that I may accidentally steal someone's content without knowing it.

Do you use Digg, and why or why not?

I have been using it lately, just to get some publicity out there. My blog is so new that there have only been about 50 visitors so far. I know that it won't get any diggs, but I don't use any deceptive advertising, so I know that if somebody clicks on my article, they did so because they are actually interested in the topic. So it's targeted readers, even if it is only a few viewers every time I submit.

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

I am not sure what this one is, but I am assuming it is similar to Digg (???). I do not use it - I guess I'm not as dedicated as I could be.

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

Posting on topic-related forums has really been key. If you engage in some high quality discussions, a lot of users will click at your homepage link in your signature, just out of curiousity. Plus, it is super-targeted traffic.

If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?

I would probably post it on thegolfchannel.com. I don't know if they have a blog, but I would want my blog to be on their website. Anyone who actually watches the Golf Channel is the perfect audience for my blog.

What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?

Don't expect too much too soon. You can have the best content in the world (just check out my blog!) but it doesn't mean you are going to get thousands of visitors overnight. And don't rely on search engines! Until you have lots and lots and lots of content, they aren't going to do much for you. Get out there and spread the word of mouth!

What are your top five blogging site picks and why?

Well, technorati is obviously a popular search engine. It's pretty cool the way it is set up with "authority." Blogger.com is great for anyone to set up their own free blog. I've heard good things about WordPress, which I believe is also free, but don't quote me on it. Google is a great way to pick up an enourmous amount of traffic if you have the blog content and the backlinks to get a good ranking. And of course, how about totalblogdirectory.com!

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?

No, and I don't intend to. There are plenty of conventional ways to meet people, and they are usually much safer. I'm not saying that the internet can't be a good medium for meeting new people, but it's got a long way to go.
