Please give us a short summary of your website?
The Long Island Baseball Directory is your source for everything baseball on Long Island. This site is designed as a portal for parents, players, coaches and baseball fans to access all of the local baseball resources that are available throughout Long Island.
You will find information on different teams, leagues, tournaments, training facilities, camps and much more. If it has to do with baseball on Long Island, this is the place to find it.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
After having a difficult time finding a travel baseball team for my son, I decided to develop a website that was dedicated to the Long Island baseball community. My goal is to become the one source that Long Islanders refer to to find relevant information on the baseball resources available to them.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first website.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The website it a directory of Long Island baseball resources so LongIslandBaseballDirectory.com seemed to fit.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The Long Island Baseball Directory is not affiliated with any one team, league, facility or tournament. It is an independent website allowing our visitors to find what they are looking for. There is no fluff.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I would eventually like to monetize the site but right now it is just a hobby.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The more time that I put into the site, the more traffic I seem to be getting.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would hire a web development firm to restructure the site to allow automatic posting instead of the manual posting that I use right now.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I think so.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
None yet.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challeng has been getting the word out about the site. I would like to see an increase in visitors.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
No. It has pretty much been what I expected.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have had the site up since Dec. 07. I don't why I wouldn't keep it up. I really enjoy finding local baseball resources and meeting new people.
