Please give us a short summary of your website?
We are a youth baseball select travel team from upstate South Carolina playing in the USSSA system. We are currently the thrid ranked team nationally in our age division in USSSA points.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
In order to promote the youth baseball team allow the players access to team information and to assist in finding team sponsors. The operating costs of travel team baseball are getting higher each year and without the help and support of businesses and corporations it would be impossiable to continue. The site also provides a means to give back to our sponsors through advertisment.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Our site has been up and running now for a year and a half. We made several efforts prior to that in having sites listed with other youth team hosts, but had little to no succsess.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
We elected to just go with the team name Carolina Sliders Baseball. Simple and to the point the team name is who we are so we wanted to say that in the web name.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Many other youth baseball teams join web hosts to provide them a site for their baseball teams. We tried this as well but were very disappointed in the sites that were provided along with the fact most all the teams sites looked the same.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To promote the team in all ways and to offer something to our team sponsors. We make sure to place our sponsors adds and logos through out our site providing them with free advertising in return for support of the team.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Currently the hosting and maintenance of the site exceeds the amount of sponsorships we have found through promotion of the site. We do believe that eventually this will turn around and through the promotion of the site will be able to bring in more team sponsors.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
The primary thing we would do would be to make sure we got our site on as many search engines as possiable. The more people viewing our site the more sponsors we believe that we can find.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes, we have several people within the organization that works on keeping the site updated and current. Most of this is in anticipation of the site growing.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Getting the site listed on search engines to allow more views and exposure. This has been something that has been very expensive and has forced us into looking into placing our site through free hosting places.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The promotion of the site, we are finding this to be the most difficult part of this adventure.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Things such as this have helped us out tremendously.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I would not say that our expectations have been all that different. We knew going into this what to expect with keeping the information current and updated. Promotion as I have already mentioned has been our biggest hurdle and I suppose that it has been more difficult than we expected.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
a couple of years and we expect it to go for the next 20 years hopefully.
Would you like to have your site rated?
yes, we would love to have feedback concerning our site and even constructive critism on how to make it better.
