Please give us a short summary of your website?
FM Planet is a website that was created for the football manager franchise. We specialise in creating soundpacks, graphic and other game modifications. We also publish alot of real football news aswell.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I was inspired by my love for football manager having played it for many years. After realising how much traffic a football manager community gets i thought it would be a good worthwhile investement.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first ever website was launched in 2002 and it was a gaming clan for a computer game called 'call of duty'.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
FM Planets name originated from the football manager game developers, sports interactive. They have released 2 version of the game called football manager & worldwide soccer manager. So it is a global marketed game and another word for world is planet which sounds better.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
FM Planet hosts our famous football manager 2008 soundpacks which are hugely popular on the FM Scene. No other football manager community offers that. We are also trying to implement cash prize competitions for our VIP members which again no other community does.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
FM Planet don't set ourselfs goals. We take each day as it comes and hopefully in due course the members count starts to grow. I would like to think that one day we could become the number 1 football manager community.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Definitely, we have oppertunitys for devoted members to become staff on the website & forums to help with the day-to-day running of the community. This will allow admins to focus on the more important issues.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The only headaches i have had to come across while making FM Planet is the website coding. Since i am unexperienced with PHP coding this did cause me a few problems but after spending 45 hours in one week to get the website & forums running i got around the problems i encountered.
What has been your biggest challenge?
So far the biggest challenge is getting the website advertised and getting new members to use the forums to help the fm planet community grow quicker. My motto is: A post a day keeps everyone happy.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Other community websites allow users to post new websites on their forums so it is an effective way of advertising. Since they done fm planet a favour, fm planet decided to link back to them aswell.
