Basketball-Goals.com Interview

By Interviewer at 07/16/07 08:51
Name of your website?

Basketball-Goals.com

Your name?

Jeff McDonald

Your Location (city, etc)

Southington

When did you start your website and why?

Webstite started 5 years ago as a means of income.

Online retailer selling factory direct sports equipment at discount prices.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

I guess the most difficult part is to always be current. Current with your merchandise and prices, current with your web site design and optimization. Its an ongoing thing that never stops.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Taking orders.

What was your biggest mistake?

Putting too much faith in what others had to say instead of trusting myself.

Who maintains your website and why?

I maintain the web site. When you've been in business for yourself for most of your life it's hard to release control, doing so means you risk your success to others who dont have as vested an interest in succeeding as you do yourself. My ultimate goal is to turn over the reigns of the day to day business and supervidse but I am still a few years off from that happening.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

I began with a website for a business I owned for 20 years , that website attracted some customers to my business (which at the time was a service business). On day I received a call from a manufacturer asking if we would like to sell their products on line and our current site was born. My service business grew smaller and smaller while my ecommerce business grew larger and larger , to the point where for the last 4 years has become my only business and has turned out far better than I dreamed it would.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

The internet is still in its infancy, and just the way the Supermarket surplanted the general store so will the internet surplant standard bricks and motar stores for most industries. People dont have time to waiste driving, looking for items and standing in line.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Well its not as easy as it once was to get highly positioned in a search engine. My site has been around for a while so its trusted and receives excellent positioning. With all the new entrants to the internet on page SEO and link building are needed today more than ever.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

I would not be where I am today unless there were search engines so they have helped me, tremendeously I might add, thank you search engines!

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Search Engines

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

I guess links would be the least directly successful way of promoting a web site but because they add to search engine positioning its hard to quanitfy thier value.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Greater integration with appliances like TV's , yes you can hook a computer up to a TV now and surf the web but the computer itself should be built into the TV. It's seems to be taking a long time for this convergance to happen.

You can enter a question of your choice and the answer here:

It's hard for someone like myself to find others working on the net as entrprenures to talk shop with, can anyone suggest a place on the net to check out.

What is your website address?

Epic Mountain Bike Interview

By Interviewer at 07/11/07 10:48
Name of your website?

Epic Mountain Bike

Your name?

Nick Mutter

Your Location (city, etc)

Twickenham

When did you start your website and why?

I've always wanted to work from the internet but I needed a topic that I was really enthusiastic about. Also I'm no techie geek so I needed help with the website bit.

The topic was easy, I took a couple of expeditions to Norway and the Alps to try out this "Mountain Bike" thing in the late 1980's. It was awesome, we broke most of the bikes and scared the heck out of the hill walkers but it was definately do-able.

Help with the website bit was also surprisingly easy once Site Build it! was recommended. All I do is write and the brain ache of website building is done for me.

No Brainer really.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

www.epic-mountain-bike.com is a specialist site focused on International Epic Mountain Biking Routes and Race Events, which will take you out of your Comfort Zone and build your Self-Reliance and Team Spirit, both on the bike, and in the outdoors.

It provides details and reviews on bikes, equipment, skills, travel, and uses affiliate programs with leading suppliers and Google Ads to monetise the site.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The initial organisation and structure of the site took some time to plan out. This process was made a heck of a lot easier by using the tools available in the Site Build It! tool set.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

The easiest part has been creating the content as a result of the initial planning. All i've had to supply is the BAM "Brainpower and Motivation"

What was your biggest mistake?

At this stage I haven't hit that one yet. What I've tried to avoid is the "Get Rich Quick" approach that is so, in your face. I'm building solid traffic with solid content and I'm enjoying the feeling of creating a website that people are interested in enjoying.

Who maintains your website and why?

Site Build It! maintains my web site and there is a link at the bottom of my home page if you are interested in finding out more. It's the best 30 mins I've invested in getting started on the internet

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

I'm drawing traffic and earning an income. Both are growing month on month:-)

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

As a means of working where and when you like I think it's great. I have a young family and I'm getting to share in theri growing up experiences I'm not missing out by having a 9-5, office existence.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Black hat or white hat, the search engines will catch you out. If you build good quality content and build links that are relevant with your website content then you are onto a winner.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

The search engines are the sanity of the internet. They keep it real. So if you work with them and avoid tricking them then you'll benefit.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Submitting to the directories and building links to complimenting sites.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

It's evolving all the time I wouldn't want to second guess it.

You can enter a question of your choice and the answer here:

If there are any keen mountain bikers with Epic stories to tell look at my site and send me your experiences. Thanks

What is your website address?

Epic Mountain Bike
